Tiaro Mail
Tiaro Mail is the mail sending built into the Tiaro Core plugin. Instead of handing emails to the web server, the site signs in to a mailbox and sends through it (SMTP), like a mail program does. This applies to every email WordPress sends: form notifications, password resets and all other messages.
This page explains what each setting does. If you want to be led through the setup step by step, use the how-to guide linked under Related.

Where To Find It
Go to Tirenoa › Options › Email › Email Settings. Only administrators can open and change it. The screen has its own button, Save email settings; the save button of the options panel does not store the mail account.
As long as no mail account is in use and no other SMTP plugin is active, the Tirenoa screens show a reminder that emails are sent without a mail account and may not arrive.
The Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Send through mail account | Enabled switches the sending on. It only takes effect when a mail server and a mailbox are entered as well. |
| Mail provider | A preset that fills in server, port and encryption: Microsoft 365 / Outlook, Google Workspace / Gmail, IONOS, STRATO, ALL-INKL, Hetzner or Other mail server. ALL-INKL and Other mail server leave the server name to you. |
| Mail server (SMTP host) | The name of your provider’s outgoing mail server. |
| Port | The port and the encryption: STARTTLS (587), SSL/TLS (465) or None (25). With encryption chosen, port 465 always uses SSL/TLS and port 587 always STARTTLS, so a mismatched pair cannot break the connection. |
| Mailbox (user name) | The login of the mailbox, usually its address. |
| Password | Stored encrypted and never shown again. Leave the field empty when saving to keep the stored password. |
| Sender address | The address emails are sent from. Usually the mailbox itself; most providers reject other addresses. |
| Sender name | The name shown next to the sender address. |
| Always use the sender address | Forces the sender address on every email. See below. |
Note: The password is encrypted with the security keys of this website. If those keys are ever changed, the stored password can no longer be read; the screen then asks you to enter it again.
Always Use the Sender Address
With Every email leaves with the sender address above ticked (the default), each email goes out with your sender address, whatever a form or plugin asked for. This is what mail providers expect.
- If a form wanted to send in the visitor’s name, the visitor’s address becomes the reply-to address, unless the email already has one. Replying still reaches the visitor.
- A sender name chosen by the form, for example the visitor’s name, is kept. Your Sender name only replaces an empty name or the WordPress default.
Test
Enter an address and click Send test email. The success message means the mail server accepted the email; check the inbox and the spam folder of that address. If the test fails, the mail server’s answer is in the log.
Domain Check
Once a valid sender address is saved, Domain check reads three public records of its domain: SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Found records are shown as they are published; missing ones come with a hint what to add at the company that manages your domain.
- DKIM is looked up under a list of common names. Your provider may use a different one, so not found is a hint, not proof.
- A complete result is remembered for six hours, an incomplete one for ten minutes. Check again looks immediately.
The Log
The Log keeps the latest 200 emails and lists the newest 100 with Time, Status, To, Subject, Via and Server answer.
- sent: the mail server accepted the email. failed: it was refused, with the reason. unknown: another plugin took over the sending and reported no result.
- The content of an email is only kept when sending failed, so that Send again can repeat it after you fixed the cause.
- Clear log empties the list.
Other SMTP Plugins and Privacy
If another SMTP plugin is active, it keeps sending and Tiaro Mail only logs. A notice on the screen names that plugin. Deactivate it to send through the account entered here.
Note: Privacy: Tiaro Mail connects to the mail server you enter, and to nobody else. The domain check asks the public domain name system for the records of your sender domain. The log, with recipients and subjects, is stored in your own website’s database.
