How To Use Dynamic Content Options

Dynamic data lets an element option take its value from the site instead of from what you type. A Title element can show the title of whatever page it sits on, an Image element can show that page’s featured image, and a footer line can always print the current year.

You need it most in places that are shared by many pages: layout sections (header, footer, page title bar, content), post cards, off-canvas panels and global elements. On a normal page it saves you from repeating content that WordPress already knows.

Connect an Option to a Dynamic Source

Options that can be dynamic show a small Dynamic Data icon next to their heading in the element options.

  1. Open the element options and find the option you want to fill, for example the text of a Title element or the link of a Button element.
  2. Click the Dynamic Data icon next to the option heading and choose a source from the list. The sources are grouped, and the list only offers sources that fit the option: text sources for text options, image sources for image options, link sources for link options.
  3. The option is replaced by a box named after the source. Click the pen icon to open its settings. Most sources have Before and After (fixed text printed around the value) and Fallback (what to show when the source is empty). Some have their own settings, such as Format for dates or Key for a custom field.
  4. To go back to a fixed value, click the trash icon in the box.

Note: In a layout section or a post card there is no real post while you edit, so the Builder shows placeholder values such as “Your Title Goes Here”. The real value appears on the front end.

The first group is named after the content type you are editing (Page, Post, Post Card and so on). Which sources appear also depends on the page and on the features and plugins that are active.

Dynamic Data Inside a Text

The option icon replaces a whole option. To put a dynamic value in the middle of a sentence, you have two choices.

  • The Dynamic Data inline element. In a text editor, open the element generator and choose Dynamic Data. Pick the source under Dynamic Data, fill in its settings and insert it. The value is printed at that position in the text.
  • Curly braces. Type the source name in curly braces. Tirenoa prints the site title, 2026 prints the current year, prints the custom field my_field. Add fallback:'some text' to show a text when the source is empty.

A typical use is the copyright line in a footer: © 2026 Tirenoa.

Note: Any text in curly braces is treated as a dynamic source. If the name is not a known source, the braces and their content are removed from the page. To print real curly braces in a Text Block, set Disable Inline Dynamic Data to Yes in that element. The Code Block element never replaces curly braces.

Preview in the Live Editor

The live editor previews values chosen with the option icon. Inline values in curly braces are shown as you typed them by default. To see the result while you work, open the preferences of the live editor and set Enable Preview for Inline Dynamic Data to Always or Editing.
