User Lost Password Element

The User Lost Password Element places a password reset form on any page. Visitors enter their username or email address, and WordPress sends them an email with a link to choose a new password. The form keeps your site’s design instead of sending users to the standard WordPress screen.

It belongs together with the User Login Element: link the login form’s Lost Password link to the page that holds this element. Visitors who are already logged in see a short notice that they are signed in instead of the form.

How To Use The User Lost Password Element

Create a page for password resets and add the User Lost Password Element to a column. Enter a Heading and a Caption and set their colors. Below them the form shows a short explanation, the username or email field and a Reset Password button.

Text Align centers all parts or lets them follow the text flow. Show Labels and Show Placeholders control how the field is named, Button Span makes the button full width, and Form Background Color and Link Color style the form box.

After the form is sent, the visitor returns to the same page, where a message confirms the request or explains what went wrong, for example an empty field or an unknown username. Enter a Redirection Link to send them to another page instead.

Tips

  • Put the address of this page into the Lost Password Link option of your User Login Element.
  • The email with the reset link is sent by WordPress. Make sure your site can send email reliably, or visitors will wait for a message that never arrives.
  • When reCAPTCHA is enabled for login forms in Global Options, it is added to this form too.
  • Place only one User Lost Password Element on a page; its field uses a fixed ID.
  • Options left on Default follow the User Login settings in Global Options, which this element shares with the login and register forms.
