Container Element

The Container Element is the outer building block of every Builder layout. Each section of a page is one container, and every other element sits inside a column inside a container. The container decides how wide its content runs, how tall the section is, and how the columns inside it are arranged, aligned and spaced.

It also carries the look of the whole section: background color, gradient, image with parallax, a background slider or video, patterns and masks, borders and shadows. On the Extras tab you can make a container sticky or position it absolutely, schedule it, or show it only when certain conditions are met.

How To Use The Container Element

Add a container, then add columns to it. On the General tab start with Interior Content Width: Site Width keeps the columns within the site width, 100% Width lets them run across the full container. Height is Auto by default; Full Height fills the browser window, and Minimum Height uses the value in Minimum Height (a percentage there is read as a share of the window height). Columns are laid out with flexbox: Column Alignment sets their vertical position in a row (Stretch gives equal-height columns), Column Justification distributes them horizontally, Content Wrap decides whether they may break onto a new line, and Column Spacing sets the gap between them. Row Alignment appears once the height is not Auto and positions several rows inside the taller container.

On the Design tab, Margin and Padding can be set separately for large, medium and small screens; empty padding falls back to the container padding in Global Options. Add borders, a Border Radius, a box shadow and a Container Link Color for links inside the section. The Background tab offers Color, Gradient, Image (with position, repeat, size, parallax and a fading animation), Slider, Video, Pattern and Mask. Background color, image, position, repeat, size and blend mode can also differ per screen size.

Two General options change how a section behaves. Name Of Menu Anchor gives it an ID that one page menu links can jump to. Enable 100% Height Scroll (Full Height only) joins consecutive full-height containers into one set that scrolls screen by screen with dot navigation; its animation and dots are set in Global Options, and the visibility settings do not apply to these containers. The Extras tab holds the positioning options. Position Sticky keeps the container fixed at the top of the window while scrolling, with its own background color, offset (a length or a CSS selector of an element to sit below), a transition offset and Sticky Container Hide On Scroll; choose the screen sizes under Responsive Position Sticky. Position Absolute takes the container out of the page flow at the Position Offset you set, which is useful for overlays. Container Publishing Status can keep a container as a draft or show it only until or after a date, and Conditional Rendering shows it only when your conditions are met.

Element Options

The tables below list every option of the element, grouped by the tabs you see when you edit it in the Builder. Many options depend on others, so the edit screen only shows the options that apply to your current choices.

Options left on Default take their value from Tirenoa → Options → Tirenoa Builder Elements → Container. Change them there to style every Container at once.

Options with a small state switch next to them can be set separately for the normal, hover and active state.

Options marked as responsive can be set separately for large, medium and small screens; the screen icon next to the option switches between them.

Tips

  • Set Column Alignment to Stretch when neighboring columns with backgrounds or borders should end at the same height.
  • A Border Radius switches the container’s overflow to hidden unless you choose an Overflow value yourself, so dropdowns or shadows that stick out of the container can be cut off.
  • Parallax and the fading animation are switched off automatically on a sticky container, and a video background only shows when Background Parallax is set to No Parallax.
  • For a background image in the first screen of the page, set Skip Lazy Loading to Yes so it appears without delay.
  • Draft and scheduled containers are always visible to logged-in users who can publish posts. Check the result in a private browser window, and remember that a page cache can serve an older version until it is refreshed.
  • Choose a meaningful Container HTML Tag (Header, Main, Section, Footer) where it fits the content; it helps screen readers and search engines understand the page.
