Author Element

The Author Element shows an “About the Author” box for the author of the current post: a heading with the author’s name, the profile picture and the biography from the WordPress user profile. It is typically placed below the content in a post layout.

Because it reads the author automatically, one layout serves all posts of all authors. The box also works on author archive pages, where it introduces the author whose posts are listed. The heading, the picture and the biography can each be switched off, so the box can be as small as a single linked name.

How To Use The Author Element

Under Tirenoa > Layouts, open a layout for single posts (or author archives) and add the Author Element to its content section, usually after the Content Element. With Show Headings on, the box starts with “About the Author:” followed by the author’s name, linked to the author’s archive; HTML Heading Tag sets the tag of that heading.

Choose a square or circle Author Avatar, or hide it, and decide with Show Biography whether the text from the user profile appears. Adjust the space around the box with Margin, and add an entrance animation on the Extras tab if the design calls for one.

The name, picture and biography come from the author’s user profile under Users in wp-admin: the display name, the profile picture and the Biographical Info field. The element only appears on single posts, pages and other single items, and on author archives.

Tips

  • Fill in the Biographical Info of every author. With Show Biography on and an empty profile, the box shows only a name and picture.
  • Pick the HTML Heading Tag to fit the page structure; after an article whose sections use H2, H2 or H3 is usually right for this box.
  • Use Conditional Rendering on the Extras tab to hide the box on post types where an author box makes no sense.
  • A short author box with a real name and biography helps visitors and search engines see who wrote the content.
